The War College of the Armed Forces
The War College of the Armed Forces was established by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated February 20, 1999 in order to provide the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan with educated senior military personnel and staff officers, military scientific staff, develop their professions, facilitate scientific researches in military field and teach the top brass of the state military-strategy, military-economic, and military-political issues related with the defense of the republic.
The students who have two-years long education in the War College are prepared for commanding or staff positions at tactical or operation levels. The education process organized in the War College focuses on learning of military-strategy, operation-tactical, and also military-political and military-economic issues.
Within the War College of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan Strategic researches and state defense management and Military Diplomacy courses are functioning. The purpose of these courses is to provide the learning of military-strategy, military-economic and military-political issues about the defense of the republic.
Foreign languages courses (English, German, French, Persian, Armenian) – are conducted with a purpose of improving foreign languages skills of the military personnel.
Training and Education center of The Armed Forces
According to the protocol which was signed between Azerbaijan and Turkish Armed Forces on April 5, 2000 and decree of the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan on February 20, The Training and Education Center of The Armed Forces (TEC) was established on March 26, 2001 on the basis of Advanced officers and Reserve officers courses in order to facilitate the application of NATO standards in Azerbaijan Armed Forces. TEC is a complimentary institution which implements the preparation of military personnel on required directions and branches of the Armed Forces and conduct of military-scientific reseraches. Complementary education provides the development of the potential staff, and brace the military personnel for continuously changing environment.
The following courses are conducted at TEC:
Advanced officers course – is a complementary education with a purpose to develope the professionalism level and service quality of the officers of different stripes, form and develop job abilities in order to abide by contemporary standards in accordance with the requirements of the Armed Forces. The course is 6 weeks long and conducted 4 times a year.
Reserve officers training course - is a complementary education that maintains the officers in reserve according to their branches. The successful graduates are awarded with the rank of “lieutenant” by the order of the minister of Defense. The 8 weeks long course is conducted for 4 times a year.
Warrant officers training course - is conducted to provide the preparation of cadre for commanding and specialist positions according to their professions. The successful graduates are awarded with a rank of “WO”. 11weeks long course is conducted for 4 times a year.
Non Commissioned Officers (NCO) training course - is conducted to provide the preparation of cadre for commanding and specialist positions according to their professions. 4 weeks long course is conducted for 4 times a year.
Azerbaijan Military Academy named after Heydar Aliyev
Azerbaijan Military Academy was established in 1939 and was called as Baku High Infantry Commanders School. Baku High Infantry Commanders School was subordinated to Republic of Azerbaijan in May, 1992. In order to meet the needs of the Armed Forces of the newly established republic of Azerbaijan, the school was converted to Baku High Joint Commanders School (BHJCS). Since 1997 the admission and teaching in Baku High Joint Commanders School have been implemented in accordance with contemporary standarts. In order to be admitted to School candidates between ages 17 and 19 who have completed secondary school education sit an exam on mathematics, physics, Azerbaijan history, Azerbaijan language and literature at the State Commission for University Admissions. According to the plan approved by the minister of Defense the candidates who have scored high are admitted to School. According to the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 20.08.2001 Baku High Joint Commanders School was renamed as Azerbaijan High Military School. By the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated March10, 2004 Azerbaijan High Military School was entitled with the name of our national leader Heydar Aliyev. Currently officers are being prepared on 23 military branches in 21 departments of 4 faculties at Azerbaijan Military Academy named After Heydar Aliyev. The graduates of the school are rewarded with a bachelor diploma and rank of “lieutenant” according to their branches.
Military Lyceum named after J. Nakhchivanski
The Military Lyceum named after division commander Jamshid Nakhchivanski was established with Mr. Heydar Aliyev’s initiative in 1971 in Baku on the basis of 8-years residential school № 2. According to the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 24, 1997 the school was named after J. Nakhchivanski.
The alumni of the lyceum have been at the forefront of the establishment of our Army, and struggle for defending the territorial integrity of their motherland since our republic gained its independence. More than 100 alumni of the lyceum were awarded with orders and medals due to their prowess and 8 of them were honored with the name of “National Hero of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
The Military Lyceum named after J. Nakhchivanski is a state guaranteed full secondary education institute. The admission exam of the lyceum is on the 15th of September and in order to be admitted the candidates between ages 15 and 17, having finished 9th grade have an examination on mathematics, physics, Azerbaijan language and chemistry subjects at the State Commission for University Admissions. The duration of the education is 2 years at the military lyceum. At the lyceum the cadets can improve their combat and physical training along with general education.
Military Lyceum named after Heydar Aliyev
The Nakhchivan branch of the Military Lyceum named after J.Nakhchivansky was established in 1998 by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 13.03.1998 and by the order of the Minister of Defense, dated 09.04.1998 in the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan. The Nakhchivan branch of the Military Lyceum named after J.Nakhchivansky was abolished by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated February 27, 2004 and Military Lyceum named after Heydar Aliyev was established based on it.
Military medical faculty of Azerbaijan Medical University
Military Medical Faculty was established under the aegis of Azerbaijan Medical University in order to prepare professional military medical officers to meet the needs of the Armed Forces in accordance with the requirements of the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on "improving the training of reserve officers for the Armed Forces" dated 25.05.2000. The duration of study is 2 years. Since August, 2000 the male alumni of Medical University completing the fourth year of treatment-prophylactic, pediatrics and dentistry faculties have been selected for admission to this faculty. The cadets have been admitted to the 1st course of "military doctors" faculty of the Military Medical School since 2006.
The “advanced officers” courses are functioning under Military Medical faculty to ensure the principles of consistency of medical officers. According to the requirements of the "Law on the Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan" residents have been prepared on 11 professions with the purpose of developing military doctors at military medical faculty of Azerbaijan Medical University since 2011/2012 academic year.
Military medical school
According to the decree of the Minister of Defense the faculty of the "doctor's assistant training" which operated till August 1994, was reorganized as a secondary military medical school. The military medical school has been incorporated into the Military Medical Faculty since December 2000 in order to develop the educational process and focus on taking advantages of material and technical base and the potential of the professor - instructor staff of the Medical University. Military doctor's assistants are trained for 2 years in the military medical school.
Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan
The Academy of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established pursuant to the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated July 2, 2008, No. 2850 and is higher education entity that provides training of specialized staff for Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, fundamental and applied researches in the field of emergency education.
The course is conducted in Azerbaijani language. The admission exam is held on the subjects included in the specialty group I. Persons admitted to the academy are provided with food, special uniform and dormitory during the study period, and receive a scholarship. Applicants who want to be admitted to the Academy are selected among from citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, at the age of 17 years by 15th of September of the relevant academic year, with height of not less than 170 cm, studying at graduation class of secondary school, or having completed military service and on age of 23 years by 15th of September of the relevant academic year.
The Academy of the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan named after Heydar Aliyev
The Academy of the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan named after Heydar Aliyev is a specialized high school which realizes high and additional educational programmes, trains special professional high educated officers, performs fundamental and applied scientific researches with Special Forces. The Academy was established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated December 1, 1998.
Considering achievements in the field of personnel training for security forces the Academy was named after Nationwide Leader Heydar Aliyev by the Decree signed by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on December 20, 2005.
Admission rules
School–leavers of call-up age whose professional choice meets all the requirements, also military serviceman who serve in the security bodies of the republic, with secondary or specialized secondary education and those who have no military rank of an officer can be admitted to the Academy of the State Security Service (SSS) of the Republic of Azerbaijan named after Heydar Aliyev.
The following age groups were fived for admission to the Academy:
- military serviceman – from the age of 18 to 23;
- school-leaves due for call-up – from the age of 17 to 19.
Those who wish to enter the Academy must apply (the military servicemen by a report) to the local SSS agency according to their place of residence until January 10 of the admission year.
Having passed the medical check-up and physical training norms in the determined form, an interview on the professional choice is held with the candidates at the Academy by Mandate Commission.
The candidates who have passed the professional choice interview successfully take the entrance exams through testing held by State Commission for Student Admission in specialty Group III (Mother tongue, History, Foreign language, Maths) to “Training of Operative Personnel” faculty of the Academy.
By the wish of the candidate the entrance exams to the Academy can be taken either in Azerbaijani or in Russian. The educational process at the Academy is carried out in Azerbaijani.
Higher Military School of the Internal Troops
The Higher Military School of the Internal Troops was established as a Teaching Camp in the territory of Qala settlement of the Khazar district of Baku by the order of the Internal Troops Command dated on 30 September 1994. The establishment of a Training Center, meeting the requirements of the Internal Troops in accordance with the terms of Protocol on Training and Rear assistance to the Staff of Headquarters of Internal Troops by Turkish Military Police organization executed by Azerbaijan and Turkey on 31.10.1997, was started. On July 5, 2001, it started to function as a Training Center under the decree of the Command of the Internal Troops. By the order of the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated on September 20, 2003, a military unit "N" was established on the basis of the Training Center and according to the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated on April 17, 2006, the Secondary Military School of the Internal Troops was founded under that military unit. On July 4, 2008, the minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Ramil Usubov presented a war flag to the military unit. The Higher Military School of the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was established on the basis of the Secondary Military School by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated on 25 February 2011. The Charter of the Higher Military School was approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated on July 9, 2012.
State Border Service Academy
The Academy of State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan established pursuant to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated June 12, 2007, No. 2217, is the state higher military educational institution specializing in higher and supplementary education programs, carrying out scientific research at all levels of higher education. The main purpose of the Academy's activity is to train senior military personnel on special disciplines for the State Border Service, to conduct scientific research in the field of state border protection and military work.
Citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan who wish to study at the State Border Service Academy should meet the following requirements:
For those not served military service -
In 2019 should be at age of 17 year and must not cross age of 20 years;
Individuals not called up for actual military service by July 31, 2019 must submit a certificate of postponement right issued by the respective city (district) Departments and divisions of the State Service for Mobilization and Conscription.
For those served a military service -
Should not be over the age of 23 until date of admission to the State Border Service Academy.
Applicants should be fully physically strong, having complete secondary or secondary special education.
Special School of the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan
Special School of the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, established by the Decree No. 170 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 22, 2014, is the full-fledged secondary general education institution of the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan with special purpose. Boys finished VI class of the secondary school having age of 10 years, but not reached 12 years are admitted to the school. The instruction language in the school is Azerbaijani. Money, goods, clothing, food, medical, dwelling accommodation (dormitories) of the students at the school are provided by the state in accordance with the legislation. Education at school is free. The school is located in Baku, Khazar district, Mardakan settlement.
